Coverage from the first day of the 2020 Arnold Strongman Classic, as re-broadcast on the CBS Sports Spectacular. The competition took place the weekend of March 6-7 in Columbus, Ohio, and brought together 10 of the most accomplished Strongman athletes from around the world, including 2x defending Arnold Classic champion Hafthor Bjornsson (Iceland), Martins Licis (USA), Mateusz Kieliszkowski (Poland), Jean-Francois Caron (Canada), and Mikhail Shivlyakov (Russia). Due to early Covid-19 safety protocols, the event was held without live spectators.
The CBS broadcast begins with an episode of the Rogue Iron Game, hosted by Sam Farber and Dr. Bill Crawford, previewing the weekend. This is followed by extended highlights from the three Day One events: Trial By Stone, Bag Over Bar, and the infamous Wheel of Pain (inspired by one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s own classic films).

As a boy in Siberia, he was always drawn to the larger-than-life heroes of Russian folklore. Now, as he approaches his 40th birthday, Mikhail Shivlyakov’s own life looks a bit like the stuff of legend: from his decorated service in Russian special forces to a current training program that finds him pushing sleds in a snow-covered forest with a group of Cossack warriors. In the gym, Mikhail’s happily given up some of his own valuable time to serve as a coach and mentor to other local strength athletes. But with Top 5 finishes at the past three Arnolds, he is far from ready to pass the torch. In fact, the “Siberian Force” is as much of a podium threat right now as he’s ever been. “If the training is hard,” he says, “the competition will be easy.”

The Rogue Iron Game show, live from Day Three of the 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games in California. Hosts Sam Farber, Annie Sakamoto, and Pat Sherwood wrap up the Swim n Stuff event and discuss the tightening race for a podium position on both the mens side (with 2nd and 5th place separated by 85 points) and the womens side (just 65 points between 2nd and 5th place). Later in the show, the crew chats with Chandler Smith, who narrowly missed reaching the Games Finals this year.

POLISH POWER: Mateusz Kieliszkowski looks like a smart choice to become Worlds Strongest Man 2020.
His results over the last 2 years have seen him make the podium at all the biggest contests.
But I believe what really sets him apart is his banker events. The events where he is so good he is starting to dominate even the best field of men. Such as Stones, Farmers Walk, Dumbbell and SuperYoke or Car Walk too. This makes him a very hard man to beat.
Need evidence? Then enjoy our selection of «Kieliszkowski Top-10 Performances» we have been blown away by… Let us know what other performances you would add in to this growing body of evidence that the WSM of 2020 could be Polish again…
Mateusz’s greatest moments take in a number of contests from 2016 Europes Strongest Man to the World Tour Finals in Manchester in 2019.
4x WSM Brian Shaw recently did a video discussing this very topic — no doubt MK is who sees as his biggest threat to win his 5th title.
